In the early 2010s, Andrei Zadorine saw The Spirit of the Beehive, Victor Erice's cult film from the 1970s. He was shaken by the film, as many of his own paintings were atmospherically similar to scenes from the film, and some shots from the film were simply visually mesmerising. The train scene in particular stayed with him as it brought back memories from his childhood when he would visit relatives who lived near the railway and spend hours watching the trains go by.

After watching The Spirit of the Beehive, Zadorine made several sketches - variations on stills from the film. This led to a series of paintings that can be seen as a visual portrait of Erice's work, including Mother, Daughter and Father and several small portraits.
