Watercolour was the first medium to which Andrei Zadorine was drawn to as a child. He continued to paint watercolours at the Academy of Arts until he transferred to the easel painting department. In the spirit of watercolour, he also began to use transparents in his oil paintings, and watercolour became the main medium for his sketches.
In the early 2010's Zadorine started to rework his own oil paintings into watercolours, based on suggestions from the Nebo Gallery in Kyiv. The result was a large series of works that chronologically correspond to his oil paintings from earlier periods. The whole series was included in a catalogue in 2020. In 2021, Zadorine’s watercolours won the first prize at the Bienalle of the Fabriano Museum of Paper and Watermark.
